Shannon Mara Teemull: Breaking Down The Barriers That Divide
We are one species. Yes we may be different races, genders, sexual orientations, cultures, all of that, but we’re one species. We have so much in common. We’re absolutely the same.”
LISTEN TO THE CONVERSATION
Meet Shannon Mara Teemull. To describe Shannon is a bit like bottling a tsunami. She is a singer, writer, performer, and, most recently, filmmaker. Above all, Shannon is pure sunshine – and a force of light quite unlike anything you’ve ever seen. From her eclectic fashion choices to her habit of dreaming up full-length musicals in her head, Shannon manages to brighten even the darkest days with her message of love.
Shannon’s latest creative project is her film, Preconceived Perception. She draws upon her multi-cultural experience to deconstruct our biases, both conscious and unconscious, and uncover the connecting thread that binds us all as humans the world over.
In this conversation we delve into the theme of identity. Shannon describes what it was like growing up as the lone artist in a family of scientists. And we explore how being the ‘other’, amidst the many cultural influences of her youth, has shaped her artistic voice.
